Used Instruments
As a young boy I was interested in music and also in wood working. At the age of nine I got my first violin . With no music teacher available , determination got me learning on my own. By the age of thirteen I was hired by a brass band to play for square dancing. At the same age I drew a blueprint and made my first wooden boat.
At fifteen I had to get a job to earn my living. I built a little work shop and as a sideline I repaired instruments, and anything that was brought to me for repairs. In my little shop I went on to build 150 wooden boats. I continued studying violin making, and making parts as I needed them.
In 1982 I began making complete violins . In 1984 I retired from 34 years of work and made violins full time. When asked I play violin for all types of celebrations.
In 2001 I was inducted into the Northern Country Music Hall of Fame which is in Sault Ste. Marie, On.
I will continue to make instruments as long as I can.
If anyone is looking for me I will be in my shop or out playing violin somewhere, or hunting when the season is open.
I live in a log home that my wife and I built 25 years ago. The scenery is quite beautiful , the reason being the Blind River is 100 feet behind my house in my back yard.
Beautiful hand crafted violins 5 string violins, violas and Acoustic Guitars.
For students or professional musicians there is an instrument here that will suit your needs. My instruments are all built by hand. Tremendous care is taken in selecting the wood for acoustical values and grain matching. Calibration of the wood and tuning of the plates is perfected in every instrument resulting in a well balanced sound that improves with age.
The wood used has been meticulously chosen over 20 years ago from mature stands of Canadian timber. The back, sides, and heads are flamed maple while the top plate is made of the very best cuts of White Spruce. All materials are air dried and Oil varnished. These instruments will last a life time with out discolouring or losing pliability.
At Pilons Violin Shop I have a large quantity of used instruments which are set up and ready to play. Each instrument is given the respect and care it deserves.
Whether you are looking for a new instrument or someone to repair or adjust the tone of your current one, I can help you. For more information on any of my products or services please call.
